Documentary Out of the Lion's Mouth: As a benefit event sponsoring the Rowell Fund for Tibet we will raise money for and give back to the Land and people from where we have explored. A vibrant record of our endeavor consisting of images and sounds will be presented in a multi-media presentation. The production will exhibit the effervescent culture, people, emotion and drama of our expedition, honor our triumphs and relinquish our disappointments. It will detail the type of logistics that are necessary for the planning and implementation of a major multi-environment expedition, and how it pertains particularly to China and Tibet. It is our committed desire to bring back a creative body of experiences that may inspire, educate, and enlighten. We will share with our viewers not only the expedition, but the details of the journey, so that our audience may come away with an educational experience of the social and environmental conditions of the “roof of the world” and how tourism and travel are making an impact on native Tibetans. We will talk about planning, gear selection, safety as well as river travel in remote areas in order to help inform our audience and empower them to prepare for their own magnificent journeys. [Beneficiaries] The Rowell Fund for Tibet: Following the tragic deaths of renowned photographer, mountaineer and philanthropist Galen Rowell and his wife and partner Barbara in August 2002, the International Campaign for Tibet’s Board of Directors and close friends and family of the Rowells established a fund to carry on Galen and Barbara Rowell’s legacy in the Tibetan community. Purpose: To encourage and support the work of Tibetans communicating issues of importance to their community to a broader Tibetan or international audiences. The fund will honor Galen and Barbara Rowell’s legacy for Tibetans by providing small grants to Tibetans in the language and visual arts who can make significant contributions to society. The Fund will support established or aspiring and talented Tibetans pursuing interests such as photography, film-making, writing, journalism, and projects that promote these skills within the Tibetan community. savetibet.org/programs/rowellfund/ [Sponsor Credits] |
